Sheffield Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre is part of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is the second largest NHS Trust in England with an annual budget approaching £520 million. It is situated in the Northern General Hospital site.

Sheffield Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre started functioning as a specialist regional centre in 1999 and is a regionally and CF Trust accredited unit. Our unit was awarded the South Yorkshire Health and Social Care "Team of the Year" award in 2003 and was runners-up in 2002 in the Innovative Care class.

We treat patients over the age of 16 years, who live in Sheffield, and also, as far as Grimsby, Mablethorpe, Alfreton, Buxton, Lincoln and Wakefield. We have a close liaison with the Sheffield Children's Hospital Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Centre from whom we receive patients when they reach 16 years of age.

The Sheffield Adult Centre looks after around 150 patients and we are growing at a rate of 10 new patients every year.

We have recently opened a brand new 12 bedded ward that was designed with the involvement of our patients and is specially designed to be a home from home. The new ward is wonderful! It is staffed by nurses who are dedicated to developing specialist skills in meeting the needs of individuals with Cystic Fibrosis.

We have an extensive Multi-disciplinary team with social workers, psychologists, dieticians, specialist nurses and a team of ward nurses who specialise in CF ward care, specialist pharmacists, physiotherapists and doctors.
